Dugout Magazine (January 2017)

I'm a little bit late on this post since I didn't pick up the January issue until last week. Anyway, the January issue of Dugout Magazine features Lim Chang-yong of the KIA Tigers.

Lim made his KBO debute with the Haitai Tigers, currently named the KIA Tigers, in 1995. Over the years he has played in the KBO with the Tigers and the Samsung Lions. He also spent time playing in Japan in the NPBL for the Yakult Swallows in 2012 and in the MLB with the Chicago Cubs in 2013. After being released from the Cubs, Lim went back to the Samsung Lions.

At the end of the 2015 season he was released from the Lions for illegal gambling and he went back to the KIA Tigers in 2016.

Inside the magazine you can also find some interviews and photos of Ha Ju-seok of the Hanhwa Eagles, and the bullpen coach for the Samsung Lions, Jeong Hyun-wook.

  1. Mr. Zero! I was really high on this guy when the Cubs signed him; but, he didn't get much of an extended chance over here. I had no idea that he'd gotten into hot water over gambling though. That's crazy.

    1. Korea has some strange rules in terms of gambling when it comes to athletes. They are not even allowed to gamble in legal casinos when they are abroad. He was actually caught up in the gambling "scandal" that Oh Seung-hwan got into in Macau back in 2014. In January 2016 both of them got fined and Oh ended up getting suspended from the KBO for 50 games if he ever decides to return. Oh also got released from his NPBL contract because Japan has similar rules. However, I don't really see that happening if he continues the run that he had with the Cardinals last season. On the up side for Oh, he got put on the WBC roster after a few pitchers ended up being off with injuries and Kang Jung-ho got his 3rd DUI and was scratched from the list.
